What's your greatest strength?
Self-awareness and whether you can support a claim with evidence.
The trap
Naming an abstraction — 'hardworking,' 'passionate,' 'dedicated' — and then not proving it. Assertion without evidence is the single most forgettable thing you can say in an interview.
How to structure your answer
Name one strength precisely → a specific story that demonstrates it → why it matters for dentistry specifically.
- One strength, named in plain words
- Prove it with an incident, not adjectives
- Connect it to clinical or patient work
A weak answer
I'd say my greatest strength is my work ethic. I've always been the person who stays late and makes sure things get done properly, whether that's studying, working, or volunteering. I don't like leaving something unfinished. I think that's going to serve me well in dental school and later on in practice.
An abstraction, asserted and never proved; forgettable within about a minute.
A stronger answer
I'm good at telling somebody an expensive number without making them feel stupid. Four years on the front desk at a veterinary clinic, handing out estimates. There was a man with a diabetic cat who'd been putting off the appointment for months, and what worked wasn't discounting anything. It was saying the number first and then staying quiet long enough for him to think. He came back that week. A treatment plan conversation isn't the same thing. But the quiet part transfers.
A strength narrow enough to prove, proved with an incident and a caveat.
The first is a virtue anyone can claim. The second is a technique, with a man and a cat attached to it.
These are illustrations, not scripts. An answer you memorize sounds memorized — the point is the shape and the specificity, in your own words and about your own life.
Reading it isn't the same as saying it.
Most people can explain a good answer and still fall apart saying one out loud. Admitted asks you all 100 questions in a faculty voice, records you, and scores your pace and filler words.
