A strong answer

What lands
I work in a chemistry stockroom with one other person, and for about a month he kept leaving the acid cabinet inventory for me. My part in it is that instead of saying something I mentioned it to our supervisor first, and he heard about that, which was worse than the original problem. When we finally talked it turned out he'd been switched into a class that ran until closing. We split it. He takes Mondays and Wednesdays, I take the rest. We're fine at work. We're not friends, and I don't think we were going to be.

Owns the escalation, gives his side a real reason, admits it only partly healed.

A weak answer

What most people say
I had a partner in a lab course who kept missing our meetings and turning work in late. I tried to be understanding about it because I didn't know what was going on with him, but eventually I had to sit him down. We worked it out and finished the project, and I learned to set expectations earlier.

He is blameless in his own story, which is the part they don't believe.

The trap

⚠Telling it as a story in which you were entirely reasonable and they were entirely not. Nobody believes it, and refusing to own any part is itself the red flag.

Reading it isn't the same as saying it.

Most people can explain a good answer and still fall apart saying one out loud. Admitted asks you all 100 questions in a faculty voice, records you, and scores your pace and filler words.
